How it works

Received, matched, reviewed, posted — and traceable in Xero.

Every remittance follows the same path. You set where the automation stops and a person starts. For the long version — one customer payment across many invoices, references that do not line up, and what reaches Xero at the end — read remittance reconciliation for Xero.

When AutoRemit is not sure

Automation that stops rather than guesses.

You set the confidence bar. Below it, nothing posts on its own — the item waits, with the reason shown, until a person decides.

Review

Below your confidence bar

The match is held and referred for review instead of posting. You see what AutoRemit read, what it matched against, and why it was unsure.

Held

The money may not have landed yet

Xero does not expose bank feeds or their timing, so AutoRemit approximates: a confirmed match is held and posted the day after the remittance, at a time of day you choose. If your feed runs late, the payment simply waits in Xero for it.

Flagged

Only part of the remittance reconciles

Part payments are shown as part payments. AutoRemit does not round, split or invent a line to close the difference.

On the record

Every decision is logged

Every match, hold, override and post is on the record, with searchable history and CSV reports.

Data protection

What AutoRemit controls — and what it doesn't.

A plain view of where your data lives and which outside services touch it. No fine print needed.

Inside AutoRemit's control
  • Australian-hosted application and data — Sydney, Australia, backups included.
  • Protected keys and credentials — encrypted connections, hashed passwords, no Xero password stored.
  • Access controls — role-based permissions and two-factor sign-in available.
  • Dedicated remittance inbox — a private address unique to your organisation.
  • Audit trail — every match, hold, override and post on the record.
  • Posting controls — your confidence bar, payment-date timing, one payment or the whole remittance.
External services
  • Xero — receives approved payments and the attached remittance; AutoRemit only reads invoices and records payments.
  • AI document reading — Amazon Bedrock processes remittance documents within Australian AWS regions to extract payer, amount, date and invoice references.
  • Email delivery — inbound remittance email is delivered by Amazon SES (AWS), running in the Sydney region, to your AutoRemit inbox.

Encrypted connections throughout. Xero is a trademark of Xero Limited; AutoRemit is independent and not affiliated with Xero, Anthropic or Amazon Web Services.

Smart References

Postings your bank feed can actually recognise.

A remittance advice has its own number. The bank reference can be different again. And Xero records a third. Software that blurs them makes month-end worse — AutoRemit keeps all three distinct and carries the payer's identity through every one of them, so a payment stays traceable from the advice to the bank line to Xero. The [AR] tag marks the reference AutoRemit generated.

Payer remittance reference Example Care Partners-2026-4471

The payer's own identifier, and what may be transmitted as the bank reference. Invoice numbers are frequently absent from it, because one remittance covers many payments. AutoRemit matches the invoice numbers in the background and builds a Smart reference from them.

Bank reference ECP_2026-4471

What the payer calls the payment when it reaches the bank — often shortened or reshaped in transit. AutoRemit scores it against the match and keeps it searchable in the activity feed, so you can answer “what happened to…” emails in seconds.

Xero payment — Smart reference INV-2041 4471 [AR]

What AutoRemit writes on the payment in Xero: the invoice number, the same fragment carried through from the payer's reference — here 4471 — and the [AR] tag identifying it as the Smart reference AutoRemit generated. One glance lines the Xero payment up against the bank feed.

Questions

The things finance teams ask first.

Where is our data stored?

AutoRemit's core systems are hosted in Australia. The application, your stored remittance documents and matches, and the backups all run in Sydney.

Does AutoRemit send remittance data overseas?

No. AutoRemit’s remittance-processing path stays in Australia. The application, your stored remittance documents, and the matching and posting records are hosted in Sydney; service email runs through AWS Sydney; and AI document extraction runs through Amazon Bedrock’s Australian geographic inference profile, which confines inference to Australian AWS regions.

Separate services such as subscription billing, the public marketing website and your own accounting platform are described in our Privacy, Security and Cookies policy.

Can AutoRemit post something we haven't seen?

Not below the confidence bar you set. Items under that bar are referred for review and wait for a person. Confirmed matches are held too — they post the day after the remittance, at a time of day you set, so nothing lands in Xero the moment a document arrives.

What access does AutoRemit have to Xero?

AutoRemit connects through Xero's standard authorisation, and its access is deliberately narrow. It can read outstanding sales invoices and the contacts attached to them, and it can record a payment against an invoice and attach the remittance document to that payment. That is the whole list. It cannot edit or delete invoices, change contacts, chart of accounts or bank accounts, alter anything already reconciled, run or export reports, or see payroll. Your Xero password is never stored, and you can revoke the connection in Xero at any time.

Which accounting platforms are supported?

Xero only. AutoRemit is built specifically for Xero and does not connect to other ledgers.

Does AutoRemit wait for the bank feed?

It cannot see the feed. Xero does not expose bank feeds or their timing to connected apps, so AutoRemit approximates the wait: a confirmed match is posted the day after the remittance, at a time of day you set. In practice the deposit has usually arrived by then and the payment reconciles against the feed on sight. If the feed is delayed, the payment sits in Xero until it appears. The one case that will not reconcile on its own is an amount mismatch — if the money that actually lands differs from the payment recorded in Xero, the two will not clear against each other and someone needs to look at it.

How do we get support?

By email, at support@autoremit.finance. Support is Australian — our team is based in Australia and answers during Australian business hours, so you are never routed to an offshore call centre. Where a situation warrants it, we can arrange one-to-one phone support.
